At Joseph and Violet, we value your privacy. We only process data necessary to improve our services and handle the information we collect about you and your use of our services with care. We never make your data available to third parties for commercial purposes. This privacy policy applies to the use of the Joseph and Violet website and the services accessible through it. These conditions are effective from June 1, 2021. If a new version is published, all previous versions become invalid. This privacy statement describes what information we collect about you, how it is used, and with whom and under what conditions it may be shared with third parties. We also explain how we  Joseph and Violet your data, how we protect it from misuse, and what rights you have regarding your personal data. Online Shop Software

Shopify
Our online Joseph and Violety is developed using Shopify. The personal data you provide for our services is shared with this provider. Shopify has access to your data to provide (technical) support, but will never use your data for other purposes. Based on our agreement, Shopify is required to implement appropriate security measures, including SSL encryption and a strict password policy. Shopify uses cookies to collect technical information about your usage; no personal data is collected or stored. Shopify reserves the right to share collected data within its own group to improve its services.

Web Hosting

Godaddy
We use Godaddy for web hosting and email services. Godaddy processes personal data on our behalf and does not use it for its own purposes. It may collect metadata about the use of its services—this does not include personal data. Godaddy has taken adequate technical and organizational measures to prevent misuse and unauthorized access. Godaddy is bound to confidentiality under our agreement.

Email and Mailing Lists

Shopify
We send newsletters and transactional emails through our Shopify store. All confirmation messages from our website and forms are sent via Shopify servers. Shopify never uses your name or email for its own purposes. Each email contains an unsubscribe link. Clicking it will stop further emails from our site, which may limit its functionality. Your personal data is securely transmitted, stored, and retrieved by Shopify. Shopify uses cookies and web tech to track email opens and clicks. It stores this data for 30 days and reserves the right to use it to improve services and share it with third parties.

Godaddy
We use Godaddy for regular email communications. They’ve taken steps to prevent data misuse and unauthorized access. Godaddy has no access to our inbox, and all email correspondence is handled confidentially.

Payment Processors

Klarna
To process (some of) the payments in our store, we use Klarna. Klarna processes your name, address, contact details, and payment info (e.g., bank or credit card data). Klarna has taken suitable steps to protect your personal data and may use it to improve services, possibly sharing anonymized data with third parties. Klarna may offer deferred payment services and shares data with third parties when necessary. All guarantees for data protection apply equally when Klarna involves third parties. Klarna retains your data only as long as legally required.

Purpose of Data Processing

General Purpose
We only use your data to provide our services. That means the purpose always directly relates to the task you assigned. We do not use your data for targeted marketing unless you consent. Data may be shared for administrative obligations. These third parties are bound by confidentiality agreements.

Automatically Collected Data
Automatically collected data (e.g., IP address, browser, OS) is used to improve our services and does not include personal data.

Government Compliance
Joseph and Violet may be legally required to share data with tax or criminal investigation authorities. In such cases, we will comply but resist such requests where possible within the law.

Data Retention
We retain your data as long as you are our customer. Your profile is deleted upon request, considered a request to be forgotten. We must keep invoices for the legal retention period. Our employees will no longer have access to your profile or documents after deletion.

Your Rights
Under Dutch and EU law, you have rights over the data we process. We explain them below. To prevent abuse, we only send data copies to the email we have on file. For other delivery methods, we require identity verification. Requests are tracked. Forgotten data is treated anonymously. All copies are in a machine-readable format. You have the right to file a complaint with the Data Protection Authority if you suspect misuse.

Right to Access
You may request access to data related to you. You’ll receive a reply within 30 days with a copy of your data, a list of processors, and data categories.

Right to Rectification
You may request correction of inaccurate data. You’ll receive a confirmation within 30 days.

Right to Restriction of Processing
You may request that we restrict processing your data. We will confirm within 30 days and halt processing until you withdraw the restriction.

Right to Data Portability
You may request your personal data to be transferred to another provider. We will send a copy to your specified email. Note: we may no longer be able to offer services afterward.

Right to Object
You can object to data processing. We will stop processing immediately until the objection is reviewed. If valid, we will cease processing and provide a copy of your data. You also have the right not to be subjected to automated decision-making or profiling. We do not engage in such activities. If you believe otherwise, please contact our Data Protection Officer.
